Colon Cleanse

My First Colon Cleanse and A Review of Global Healing Center

According to Dr.Group, the founder of Global Healing Center, your entire body can become sluggish and have difficulty performing its daily tasks due to toxic buildup that is taking its toll on the colon. “Toxins” is referring to anything that harms the body. This includes but is not limited to; additives in our food, pesticides on our crops, air pollution, mold, and even cleaning chemicals.

Keep reading to learn about my first ever colon cleanse experience and why I decided to use Global Healing Center supplements. There is a short summary below for those of you who don’t need the details. However, if you’d like to know the ups and downs I experienced, any symptoms I had, what I ate, etc…I’ve laid out my in-depth experience as well.

Quick disclaimer: I am not a doctor or a nutritionist so please be mindful as you read about my experience because a colon and/or liver cleanse is NOT suitable for everyone. It is best that you speak to your health professional prior to cleansing. In addition, some of the links below are affiliate links which means that if you decide to purchase I will earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Please know that I have purchased this product with my own money and was so impressed with the results that I wanted to share it with others. Deep Cleaning Your Home

Imagine your home or living space for a moment. You do a pretty good job of deciding what to bring inside, what you’re going to keep, and what you’re going to throw out. You regularly take out the trash, sweep, wash the dishes, and clean up your messes. Your colon does the same thing for your body. Generally speaking it does a wonderful job at utilizing the food you eat to absorb its nutrients and then prepares the remaining material to be eliminated.

Over time your house can become a bit cluttered with clothes, magazines, shoes, old mail, and old food in the fridge. So every six months or perhaps every season, you decide to perform a deep clean. Going through a colon cleanse is like giving your body a deep clean from the potentially harmful matter that has built up over the years.

Benefits of a Colon Cleanse

About 70% of your immune system is in your gut and colon cleansing can give your immune system a boost. Below are five more reasons to perform a colon cleanse. You can read the full article here:

A colon cleanse can:

  1. Improve your digestion.
  2. Prevent constipation.
  3. Boost your energy and ability to focus.
  4. Jumpstart weight loss. *While a colon cleanse is not to be done for the sole purpose of losing weight, it can give you and your body a jumpstart to leading a healthier lifestyle.*
  5. Rejuvenate your skin.

The Products I Used

I am naturally hesitant about supplements, medications, and even over-the-counter pain relievers such as Tylenol or Advil. Not quite sure why I am this way because I grew up in a household that regularly uses those items. However, due to my hesitation, I tend to deeply research the products I consume and spend my money on.

The Colon Cleanse Kit from Global Healing Center includes leading colon cleanser, Oxy-Powder®, as well as Latero-Flora™ probiotics to support gut health.

For this colon cleanse I used GHC’s Colon Cleanse Kit which includes the Oxy-Powder colon cleanser, the Latero-Flora probiotic capsules, and Dr.Group’s book The Green Body Cleanse. Not only does the kit have great reviews, but it’s also affordable.

A few more reasons why I chose to use the Colon Cleanse Kit

●  The supplements are safe, gluten-free, gentle, vegan, GMO-free, non-toxic, and effective! You can read about Oxy-Powder here and Latero-Flora here
● It’s backed by research.
● The full colon cleanse only takes 6 days of commitment, not even a full week!
● There are detailed and easy to follow instructions.
● You have two recommended dietary plans to choose from during the cleanse (I’ll get into more of that a little later).

There was another recommended add-on supplement, the Aloe Vera Fusion, but I chose to do without. So this is my review with the bare minimum of supplements.

Foods I Ate

The Global Healing Center provides you with detailed instructions on how to complete the colon cleanse and you can view those here. The two dietary options are:

  1. Fruit Only Diet
    • Just as the diet sounds, you only consume fruit during the cleanse.
    • There is a special emphasis on eating cleansing fruits, such as; avocados, strawberries, watermelon, and blackberries.
    • The Fruit Only Diet sounded a bit too intense for my first colon cleanse so I opted for the second dietary recommendation.
  2. Eating a Healthy Diet
    • I prefer to ease my way into things and decided that the Healthy Diet would be easier for me to handle mentally and physically.
    • In addition to eating salads, raw nuts, and seeds, I also enjoyed a variety of fruits, some fish, chicken, and eggs.
    • I avoided processed foods (anything that comes out of a box or bag), gluten, and sugar.
    • The colon cleanse provides you with lots of fluids so I was busy trying to keep up with their recommended intake of the Colon Cleansing Cocktail.

Colon Cleansing

I took meticulous notes of my daily experience on the colon cleanse. Not only did I write down how I felt emotionally and physically, but I also noted how many bowel movements I had, what I ate, my energy levels, and even how I slept. If you are squeamish about bowel movements then skip over that section. 💩.

Energy Levels. By the end of days 1, 3, and 5 of the cleanse, I was exhausted. I hadn’t been that tired in a very long time. I was sleepy and my body felt heavy and sluggish. On one of the days I even took a nap in the middle of the afternoon. This is rare for me but I was able to fall asleep that night without any problems.

The body goes into recovery mode when you’re sleeping. I noticed that after having an exhausting day, I would wake up the following morning with much more energy.

Physical Symptoms. The first day I experienced minor low back discomfort and on another day I heard loud gurgling noises coming from my belly 😆. Both of those symptoms are signals of digestion activity. To ease my aches, I did a few supine yoga twists.

On day five I experienced stomach cramping. This was most likely due to dehydration since I wasn’t drinking as much of the Colon Cleansing Cocktail. The discomfort did not last more than 15 mins. By the end of the week I noticed that my stomach area was no longer inflamed or bloated. It’s pretty crazy to think that I didn’t know I was living in a state of chronic inflammation/bloating until it was gone.

In terms of hunger, I honestly did fine following the plan until the last day or so when I added in some weight training. My muscles/body was asking for more nutrition so I simply ate more of what was on the plan.

Mood. During the beginning of the cleanse I had moments of feeling a little sensitive and emotional. I had a strong sense of “unworthiness” for a couple of hours but I was able to pray, remind myself of my identity, and it did not come back after the first or second day.

Sleep. Once or twice during the cleanse I experienced insomnia, which is rare for me. I woke up couldn’t sleep for about an hour. Other nights I slept like a baby.

Supplement Modification. During the cleanse one should have 2-5 bowel movements every day. I was often able to achieve this with only taking 4 Oxy-Powder pills the night before rather than 6. However, generally speaking I followed the protocol as-is.

Bowel Movements. My worst fear during this cleanse was having an embarrassing “gotta rush to the bathroom or I will have an accident” type of moment. Good news – that didn’t happen! Not once did I feel a sense of urgency to go to the bathroom and I was able to keep up with my regular work schedule.

This first few bowel movements (BMs) I had were small and a very dark colored brown, but the supplements softened the stools so that the cleansing process did not hurt. The rest of the BMs were similar to diarrhea, a medium to dark brown color, but they weren’t as watery. They were like a thick sludge that would sink towards the bottom of the toilet. This might be gross but there were several floating particles of various shapes & sizes that I didn’t recognize (as in they did not look like undigested food). Who knows how long they’ve been there, I’m just happy to get rid of them 😷  By the end of the week the BMs were lighter in color and I kept thinking, “How much more of this can come out of me?!”

Results

Energy. Do you remember that tired, very worn-out, sluggishness I was feeling? Well it pretty much lifted and disappeared the last day. Days and weeks after the cleanse I felt great! I slept well, woke up with energy, and just felt lighter. I also noticed that even while I introduced processed foods back into my diet (gluten free tortilla chips are my weakness 😩), my body has been able to handle it quite well 🙏🏽 .

Mood. The very first day of the cleanse I experienced unusual anxiety and feelings of worthlessness. It was a belief I had about myself for a very long time and during times of weakness it is easy for me to fall back in that trap. Thankfully, it did not last more than a day and I have been in a generally positive mood.

Weight. I would like to take the time to say that I did not perform this colon cleanse to lose weight. Mentally and emotionally I was in the place where I thought, “If weight comes off, great. If it doesn’t come off, then that is great too. I trust my body to let go of what it no longer needs and I have decided to be grateful for my health.”

While the colon cleanse is NOT about losing weight, I simply share this as a measuring tool for my body. It is natural for a body fluctuate a few pounds throughout the day. My starting weight was 137lbs and by ending weight was 132lbs.The majority of the weight lost was definitely water weight. I was no longer bloated, I felt lighter and more energized. One month later I weigh in at 135 lbs which means that 2 lbs of weight have not come back after the cleanse. Perhaps that was 2lbs of waste I was holding onto, who knows, but if my body is not in need of it then I don’t want it back (lol)!

Digestion. Prior to the colon cleanse I had about one bowel movement a day, at least every other day. The supplements and diet definitely helped move things along and with proper nutrition things have been smooth sailing! So, yes my digestion absolutely improved.

Tips

• Drink lots of water! The plan states this, I’m just reiterating the importance of it. Because you are having more bowel movements than usual, it is very possible to become dehydrated. You also want to make sure you’re drinking plenty of fluids to help clean the out the sludge coming out of your pipes/colon.
• Keep your body moving. Go for walks, practice yoga, or do some form of exercise that you love. This gets oxygen to the blood and helps with digestion.
• My two favorite yoga poses during the cleanse:
◦ Standing cat/cow flow
◦ Lying down supine twists
• Breathe: have movements of taking full deep breaths and slowly exhaling. Use the full capacity of your lungs and allow your body to relax. This is especially important if you’re feeling tired and worn-out. The body is going through a lot and you want to let go of as much tension as possible so that it can focus on healing.
• Because your body heals and recovers during sleep, try to get as much of it as you can.
• While I am not a doctor, I do believe there is such a thing as “too much cleansing” for the body. The colon was created to manage the waste in your body and it generally does a good job of it. Your body does not need these supplements 7-days a week, all year long.

Closing Thoughts

It’s amazing reading about my experience months later. In the end I so appreciated the way I felt, my energy, and the results that I nearly forgot about how sluggish, worn-out, and emotional I had been during the cleanse. The supplements are gentle and effective. I remained very active during the GHC Colon Cleanse and it did not hinder my performance, daily activities, or work life so I would definitely do it all over again.

p.s. About a month and half later I performed a liver cleanse and let’s just say I was BLOWN AWAY…stay tuned…

He Washed My Feet

In a little over 6 months I will be getting married!! Part of me still can’t believe it, but as I pick out bridesmaid dresses, look over engagement photos, and decide on table decorations, it all starts to remind me that this is really happening…

Jimmy and I will be husband and wife…

We will be united as one…

I will be his forever Queen BehBeh…

He will be my forever King BooBoo…

Before all that happens, I would like to share our proposal story with you.

Sometime in August, my family took a vacation to Panama City Beach, FL. This included my mom, stepdad, brother, sister, and the dogs. A day or two into our trip, Jimmy decides to fly down as a surprise to me (but it kinda felt like he was just disrupting our family vacation)  😉 …

I had a feeling he might be proposing soon. Actually, I accidentally figured it out because my mom SO excited she couldn’t contain herself. (Lesson learned: Jimmy and I can’t tell our parents anything if we want to keep it a surprise)…

However, I had no idea how he was going to propose.

A couple of days later my family wanted to take pictures on the beach. It was going to rain soon so they told me to hurry up and get ready. I thought, “This might be it!” But I didn’t allow my self to get excited because “what if this wasn’t it?!” #mixedemotions #calmdownfrances

After quickly getting ready I walked oustide, down the stairs and noticed red roses lined in the sand as Jimmy waited for me at the bottom of the stairs.

“This is it I thought.”

We laughed, I felt some butterflies but knew he was more nervous than I.

To be honest, I don’t remember everything he said. It all kind of felt like a blur and I remember his proposal being really long (haha). It was not a quick “will you marry me?” scenario.

However, I do remember him reading John 13:3-17, the story of Jesus washing His disciples feet. (If you are not familiar with this story, I encourage you to read it here).

John 13:13-15 ESV

There is a portion of that passage where Jesus says, “You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you…”

Why is this so vital for us? Because we are called to serve one another as Jesus served His disciples, especially in marriage.

He washed my feet y’all!

Not only did Jimmy tell me he wanted to be my servant, he showed me during the proposal by leading me to a pool of water and washing my feet.

He then prayed for us, showed me the most beautiful sparkly ring I ever did see, and asked me to marry him.

So, on Thursday, August 11, 2016 I, Frances Estela said I would marry my King Booboo 😍 ❤️ 🙏🏽

I’m nervous, excited, scared, and mourning my single hood. In light of the whirlwind of emotions, we are doing our best in preparing for marriage. I’ll keep y’all updated! #prayforus #mtl2gether

32 Benefits of Yoga & Why It Will Change Your Life

32 Benefits of Yoga & Why It Will Change Your Life

When I sat down to write this article, I wanted to come up with 10 reasons why yoga is beneficial for you. However, 10 reasons came to mind so quickly that I decided to keep going and tripled my original goal! #whoopwhoop

Let’s begin with the first benefit of having a yoga practice:

1.Yoga is holistic – promoting wellness for your body, mind, and soul.

The word yoga means “to yoke”. Practicing yoga is bringing awareness to all three aspects of yourself: physical-self (body), mindful-self (mind), and spiritual-self (spirit).

The cool thing about practicing yoga is that you can tailor it to your needs and desires. For example, if you want to focus more on the strength building aspect, you can attend a power yoga class. Or, if you’re more in need of relaxation and calming the mind, then I highly suggest a restorative yoga class.

Benefits of Yoga for Your Body

Yoga…

2. Makes you stronger.

The physical exercise of yoga builds your strength due to body weight bearing poses.

3. Improves your flexibility.

I’ve often heard, “Oh I can’t do yoga because I’m not flexible.”  (-__-) This type of argument is like saying, “Oh I don’t lift weights because I’m not strong enough.” In the latter situation, you work with what you can lift and build strength from there. Gaining flexibility works in a similar manner. You stretch and breathe to where your body can go and over time you become more flexible. #idontwannahearanyexcusespeople

4. Aids in weight management.

Any and every body shape and size can practice yoga. Some people lose weight when they begin a regular yoga practice and others build strength. I am in the later group. I haven’t lost weight but I am much stronger and better able of carrying my body weight.

In addition, there are various poses that can assist in activating your thyroid gland, the liver, and kidneys. When you activate these organs through twists, compressions, and releases, you are gently reminding them to do their job. For example, the thyroid gland releases a hormone that is responsible for activating your metabolism. Certain yoga poses can gently remind your thyroid to do this.

Regardless of whether you want to lose weight or not, the asana (pose) practice of yoga helps your body to healthfully carry your weight and activate your organs. #yogaforeveryBODY

5. Improves your breathing.

In yoga class you are reminded to take slow, full, and deep breaths with an emphasis on relaxing as you exhale.

6. Improves lung capacity.

Sometimes various breathing techniques are taught in yoga class that require you to hold your breath and release it. These exercises can improve and expand your lung capacity.

7. Is good for your heart in helping with blood circulation.

As you breathe deeply and transition from pose to pose, your heart is pumping and you’re creating space within the body for your blood to circulate. These cardio benefits greatly depend on the style of yoga you’re practicing. But even if you choose to practice a restorative style of yoga, legs-up-the-wall-pose is wonderful for improving blood circulation in your legs with minimal effort. #apersonalfavorite

8. Improves what happens in bed – sleep and the sexy love part 😉

As you learn to take slow deep breaths, your body relaxes, lets go of unnecessary tension, and

a. allows you to fall asleep and have better quality sleep.

b. allows you to have a better connection w/your partner because yoga teaches your body to relax (and not be so self-conscious).

9. Improves your balance.

Yoga not only improves your balance by standing on one leg or your arms, but it also teaches you how to achieve balance in your life!

10. Is detoxifying.

When you sweat, your body releases toxins. #yesss

11. Teaches you to listen to your body.

Yoga is not merely a workout where you do a certain number of moves, exercises, reps and call it a day. During your practice you’re constantly building awareness, you’re reminded to be in the present moment and check in to see how your body is doing. This teaches you to listen to your body’s signals in the moment and this translates to everyday life.

Your body is constantly giving you signals of how it’s doing. Tense shoulders and tight hips probably means you’re stressed. Overstuffed belly that induces a food coma is your body saying, “You fed me too much buddy. Now you’ve gotta stop whatever you were doing so I can fully concentrate on digesting all of this food.”

When you practice listening to your body in class, it becomes easier to listen to your body in everyday life.

12. Practicing yoga sculpts your muscles simply using your body weight. #getit

13. Builds body confidence.

You cannot be confident in something or someone you do not know. The physical practice of yoga teaches you to know your body and as you grow in body awareness, you grow in body confidence.

Benefits of Yoga for Your Mind

Yoga…

14. Can reduce stress.

Various studies have concluded that yoga can reduces stress, you can check them out here and here.

15. Improve symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Because yoga can tame your stress response, it also improves any symptoms of depression and anxiety.

There are even particular yoga poses that can help with depression and others for anxiety. For depression you’d practice more heart-opening/back-bending poses such as cobra, camel, or a standing backbend. If you’re anxious then practicing grounding poses such as child’s pose and tree pose can be very beneficial.

16. Improves mental clarity and is calming to the mind.

Focusing on the your breath forces you to let go of negative self-talk. Instead of thinking “I can’t do this” you’ll notice the rise and fall of the belly as you take deep breaths, find it comforting, & think “it’s going to be okay, just breathe”.

17. Builds self-awareness.

This is the first step in improving one’s self-esteem and sense of identity. By building self-awareness you learn how the body-mind connection works. If you are mentally thinking, “nobody likes me” your physical self will probably be walking around with shoulders slumped and eyes looking down. In a yoga class, not only are you improving your posture, you are paying attention to your thoughts and letting go of the negativity.

Simply stated, your body carries your emotions and you learn how your emotions, thoughts, & feelings influence your body & vice versa.

18. Brings you into the here & now.

Yoga practice teaches you to focus on the present, rather than freaking out about your to-do list, or dwelling on things of the past and of the “shoulda, coulda, woulda” situations.

19. Gives you the power and control to test your limits and push yourself.

Yoga practice isn’t a race and there’s always room for improvement. This mindset gives you the freedom to push yourself when you are ready and find relaxation when you need.

Benefits of Yoga for Your Soul

Yoga…

20. Teaches you to accept yourself.

Acceptance is being at peace even if it’s not how you planned or envisioned.

21. Cultivates an attitude of gratitude & fosters self-love.

As you practice yoga, you come to the realization that your body is for you. All of your cells, organs, your brain, and everything is working very hard to keep you alive and as healthy as possible. By becoming grateful for the body you’ve been blessed with, your actions towards yourself begin to spring from love.

22. Teaches you patience.

Not every single pose will come naturally to you. Heck, stretching and moving may not “feel” natural but our bodies were created to move. Yoga may cause initial thoughts of, “This is hard”, “I can’t do this”, or “I will never be able to do that.” But as time goes on, you will learn to be patient with yourself.

23. Gives you the opportunity to let go.

This goes hand in hand with patience. As you practice patience with yourself you learn to let go of self-judgement.

24. Helps you overcome fear.

You will face yoga poses that can be scary at first. But as you build your strength, gain flexibility, and understand your body, you will gain the confidence to face your fears.

25. Makes you hustle.

When I say “hustle” I’m referring to the ability to get back up and try again if you don’t succeed the first time. It’s gaining the courage to try new things, poses & shapes you didn’t know you were capable of. Every time you show up to yoga class you’re making the choice to overcome fear, doubt, and try something new. #hustle!

26. Reminds you that life is a journey.

Your yoga practice is a journey and the possibilities are endless. Realizing that yoga practice is a journey parallels with the realization of life being a journey. There ups and down and that’s okay.

27. Learn to connect with your true self.

Remember the whole breathing thing I was talkin’ about earlier? Well, when you intentionally allow your breath to guide you through movement, not only are you connecting with your physical self, but you’re connecting with your mind and soul as well.  Thus experiencing the “yoking” or yoga of the three.

28. Teaches you to slow down and listen to your inner voice/intuition.

This is similar to building self-awareness for the mind but it goes a bit deeper by acknowledging your emotions, thoughts, and what your inner voice is telling you. For instance, when poses get difficult in class you’re intuition might be telling you to get a few breaths in child’s pose and then join in again. The opposite is true as well, maybe your inner voice says “just go for it” when trying something new. Yoga is the only physical form of movement I am aware of that encourages you to listen to your inner voice throughout the whole class.

Other Random (but Important) Benefits of Yoga

29. What you learn on the yoga mat translates into real life situations.

Let’s use the benefit we talked about in number 22 as an example. You first practice patience with yourself. As you develop patience with yourself, you’re capacity to be patient with others and situations in life will grow as well. Afterall, you can only give to others what you already have within you.

30. Yoga gives you the opportunity to connect with others.

Whether you attend a class or share your progress via social media, the yoga community is very warm and welcoming.

31. Find a mentor or teacher who guides you through your practice.

Whether we like to admit it or not, we all need someone to guide us along a new journey at times. This is what a yoga teacher can do for you. He or she will teach you the importance of breath work throughout your practice and they will give you cues specific to your body’s needs. Not only will your yoga practice accelerate at a much faster pace with a teacher, but he or she will also ensure that you are practicing the poses safely with correct alignment.

32. You can find a style of yoga to best suit your needs.

There are SO many styles of yoga y’all! Do not be turned off by one teacher or one style of yoga, because yoga is for everyBODY – you’ve just gotta find what works for you. Take a look into your local studio(s), look at their class descriptions, and find the one that best suits your needs. You are SO worth this new experience.

Yoga will change your life in the best way possible. After reading these benefits, what is the most important reason for you to begin or continue a yoga practice? Did you read the article and think I missed something? Let me know in the comments below!

Remember, love is an action and it starts with you.

How To Be Yourself With Confidence

There’s a lot of fluffy material out in the internet world about “discovering who you are” or “staying true to your authentic self” – but what does that even mean and why do I need to do it?! Keep on reading and you’ll find out what happens when you don’t make the time for some self-discovery. (*hint hint* it has to do with your confidence)

To boil it down, when you don’t know yourself, you allow everyone else – family, friends, society, culture – to tell you who you are and dictate how you need to be, and what your values are.

Here are two examples:

1. Our culture celebrates riches. Have a big house, drive a nice car, spend money on things. These are all tangible material items. If I don’t know who I am or my values, then I will perceive the value of “gaining riches” as my own.

I then place my worthiness and value in how many rich tangible items I have (or do not have) in possession. *Important note – there is nothing wrong with wealth and money. The problem is when it becomes an idol and it is something we feel incomplete without.

2. My family tells me I need to lose weight. Instagram, TV, pop culture, music videos, etc. all send the message that I am not good enough because I don’t look a certain way. When I didn’t know who I was, I received all the lies the world was feeding me. I hated my body, I had a low self-esteem, and I even avoided fun activities such as going to the beach or on a tubing adventure as a result of being self-conscious.

The examples could go on and on.

Ultimately, not knowing who you are creates the opportunity for you to lack confidence. You walk around feeling powerless, defeated, and insecure.

Butttttt, there’s good news! It’s never too late discover who you are and figure out how to stay true to your authentic self.

“That’s cool and all Frances, but how do I even start this process? It feels a little strange to me.”

Uh! I’m so glad you asked! 😉

A great way to get started on this journey is by using the Audaciously Me 21 Day Self-Discovery Guide.

This guide takes you through twenty-one different exercises for your personal growth – these are actionable steps to get to know yourself!

If you’re reading this, you’ve got a willingness to change, a desire to walk confidently, and a hope knowing it’s possible to be at peace with yourself.

It takes bravery and vulnerability so it’s not a simple task. In fact, it’s not a task at all. Learning, growing, building awareness of who you are – it’s a journey. Not something you can simply check off of your “to-do list”.

As you get to know yourself, you will begin to love yourself. Many people aren’t ready to say the words “I love myself” so I encourage you to begin with this guide. Build confidence and be authentic.

Remember, love is an action and it starts with you.
